The underlying class of this speaker was obvious as soon as it was connected to our reference system, with a relatively smooth and enticingly open balance which maintained fine clarity even at very low listening levels.
Possessing fine all round material value and a beautifully engineered balance, the ML-510 is good enough to do justice to a pretty decent hi-fi system...a clear best buy.
...there are the sub $350 boxes to buy if you want hi-fi resolution on a tight budget.
At just $350 a pair the ML-510's offer a level of definition that's simply stunning. These speakers reveal more of a recording than any others below $350. Treble detail is well focused, allied to an exceptionally clean midrange and a taut rhythmic bass. The effect is to lift the lid off the music and pour it all into your ears.
...the ML-510's are pretty easy to drive, but the character of the partnering gear is quite crucial: anything too bright and brittle doesn't suit them at all. With more finely balanced partners, however, they're fully deserving of this five star verdict. Add in the superb build quality and the bi-wirability, and the JPW's are a great achievement.
